Volunteer work group at Halloween

Current Opportunities

There are a variety of opportunities for you to volunteer at Family House. We work with each volunteer to make sure your valuable time is used efficiently and productively. We have been fortunate to work with an abundance of hardworking San Francisco corporate, church, school and independent groups.

House Support Volunteers

Volunteers select a day of the week--morning or afternoon shift. The position includes working off a checklist to ensure that the house is well stocked and tidy. Other duties might include arts and crafts, reading, playing games with children, staffing the office, running errands, picking up food, and a variety of other tasks.

Corporate Volunteers

Corporate projects include prepping and painting bedrooms, bathrooms and common areas, gardening, deep-cleaning and other chores that can be completed in a group. This kind of help is invaluable to us and can definitely become a wonderful team building experience.

Church Group Volunteers

The Tzu Chi Foundation, a Buddhist Compassion Group, helps out with monthly gardening, preparing nutritious meals throughout the year and with holiday dinners. Great Exchange Covenant Church joined us to prepare a special dinner for our families. Twenty volunteers showed up and not only prepared a delicious meal, but also made sure there were leftovers. What a treat! Temple Emanu-El sends teens to Family House monthly, where they provide a monthly meal and help out with holiday dinners. They also ran a toy drive among their students and donated canned goods during the holidays.

School and Independent Group Volunteers

High School students from Convent of the Sacred Heart, Stuart Hall and St. Ignatius College Preparatory volunteer at Family House utilizing their young energy and enthusiasm to interect with children and their siblings at the house, deep clean bedrooms, organize canned food shelves and toy closets. Two groups of developmentally disabled adults, ARC and WorkLink, serve Family House on a weekly basis. We are so fortunate to have their lively spirits working hard to keep our houses clean and tidy.

Special Talent Volunteers

We have some very special volunteers that come frequently to entertain the families: David Boswick "The Clown" Magidson, Bobbie the Bunny Thomas, and PAWS for Healing therapy dogs. You may have a special talent that we would love for you to share with our families.

Many groups have found their way to us through HOBA (Hands on Bay Area click here ), Family House thanks all of the volunteers who offer their love, time, and talent to our families.
